Baillie Fabricating & Welding FAQs: What to Know Before Starting a Fabrication or Welding Project

At Baillie Fabricating & Welding, we know customers want clear answers before they are ready to request a quote. Knowing more about a metal fabrication shop up front can save you valuable time and help you determine if a project is a good fit.

That’s why we’ve compiled answers to common questions we receive about our services. If you don’t see your question answered here, contact our team, and we’ll be happy to discuss your project!

What manufacturing services do you offer?

Our capabilities include sheet metal forming, laser cutting, CNC machining, and welding services. We also assist with product development and CAD drafting when a project requires design support.

What types of projects are the best fit at Baillie Fabricating & Welding?

We handle a variety of metal manufacturing projects, but our strongest fit is typically repeat work in medium to high volumes, especially sheet metal-based projects. These jobs allow our team to apply our production expertise and maximize efficiency.

If you are unsure whether your part or assembly fits our capabilities, we’re happy to discuss.

What size parts can you fabricate?

In general, we can work with parts up to about 60 inches by 120 inches. Our most common parts are closer to 24 inches by 36 inches, but we regularly work with smaller components as well.

Some projects may also involve larger assemblies or parts bigger than 60 by 120 inches. Because part size capabilities depend on factors like material, geometry, and process requirements, we encourage customers to discuss their design with us if their parts are outside the typical range.

What are your typical lead times?

Lead times vary based on a number of factors, so there is no single standard lead time for every project.

Important factors include the required processes, order quantity, material availability, capacity, and overall complexity.

While there is no standard lead time, many projects fall in the range of three to five weeks. Higher-volume or more complex projects may take longer, sometimes up to eight weeks or more. If timing is a major factor, discuss your deadline with us early.

Do you offer expedites?

In certain cases, we can accommodate expedited work, and we’re also happy to discuss other paths to faster production.

Does Baillie Fabricating & Welding provide on-site welding?

Yes. Baillie Fabricating & Welding provides on-site welding services after evaluating the customer’s needs and application.

We do not weld high-pressure vessels, fuel tanks, or flammable containers. All on-site welding services are scheduled in advance, as we do not provide 24/7 emergency welding services.

A minimum on-site service fee applies, based on a four-hour minimum. For safety, every job requires a minimum of two Baillie Fab team members on site.

Do you handle small repairs or household work?

Yes, we can perform small repairs and certain personal or household projects. These jobs are subject to a shop minimum that covers the first hour of labor.

Does Baillie Fabricating & Welding provide welding services for vehicles?

No. We do not offer any type of auto body repairs, such as rusted frame repairs. These types of projects should be handled by car restoration companies or automotive repair specialists.

Do you offer design and drafting services?

Yes. We provide design and drafting services as needed, and can take a project from an initial idea all the way through CAD modeling, shop drawing preparation, and manufacturing.

Fees for these services are based on the approximate hours needed to complete the design, CAD modeling, and any other necessary work.

Can you work with customer-supplied material?

Yes, we can use customer-supplied material as long as it meets project requirements. However, we do not work with scrap material.

Can you manage outside processes?

Yes. When a fabricated part requires outside processing, such as powder coating or anodizing, we can coordinate that work through our network of trusted vendors

Do you offer structural steel work?

We do not perform structural steel work, such as steel erection.
